Default Quad Kings are the third nuts.

Playin some 2/4, I pick up KK, raise it up and get one caller. Flop is A [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]K [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]Q [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], turn is A [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], river is K [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. Opponent had an ace, so i got decently paid off, but I was just amazed that four kings were only the third best possible hand.

The only way i can think of a better hand being "worse" is a board like A [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]A [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]4 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]5 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]6 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], where quad aces are fourth nuts. this ever happen to anyone?

Quad Aces are 3rd nuts here. If someone has 78 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (the ultimate nuts), the 2nd nut of 34567 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] can't happen, so the 2nd nuts is 23 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img].

I know aces can't ever be beat simultaneously by more than two hands here, but 4 Aces are the fourth nuts in the sense that it is the fourth best possible hand that can be made on this board, behind 8-high, 7-high, and 6-high straight flushes. In the previous example only two possible holdings are better than KK, making it third nuts, and it happens that those two holdings have no cards in common.

No, they're the third nuts. The other guy is right.

My brother was playing a $50 SNG once (way out of our bankrolls btw) and with 3 people left 2 went all in and he had AA so he called. He flopped a full house (an ace came on board) but the board ended up making quads with an ace kicker so instead of an almost guarunteed 1st, he got 3rd.
