Default Multiple Monitors Tips and Tricks Thread...

My 2001fp has just arrived, and I'm looking for the best setup. Here's what I've done, and what I'd like. Anyone else have some good tips and tricks for using multiple monitors?

MULTIPLE TASKBARS

Having no taskbar on the secondary monitor is a pain. "Oscars Multi-Monitor Taskbar" is a freeware that fix this. The only problem is that it does not mimic the standard functionality of minimizing an open window when clicking it in the taskbar. "UltraMon" is a commercial software ($39.95) without this problem. I've used the free trial for two days, don't know how long it will work.

- Oscars Multi-Monitor Taskbar
- UltraMon

The secondary taskbar does not include the start button and systray. If that was the case, perhaps it would be easier to choose what monitor to open up an application in (without selecting an app to always open in a certain monitor)? Is there a way to do this?

WINDOWS OPENING ON WRONG MONITOR

If I move a poker client to the right monitor, the tables will still open up on the other monitor. If I have a web browser open on the right monitor, and click a link that opens up in a new window, it will do so on the left monitor. I've tried fiddling with UltraMon settings (and video driver software, nVidia), with no success.

Has anyone got a good solution for this?

SMART MOUSE TOOL THAT "SNAPS" TO MONITOR CORNERS?

When moving the mouse pointer to the right part of the monitor (to close a window, or grab the scrollbar, etc), the pointer easily moves too long and turn up in the second monitor. A cool software tool would sense what I'm about to do, and snap the pointer to the right side of the first monitor, or continue to the second monitor.

Is there such a cool tool somewhere?

COLOR MANAGEMENT

Anyone use a good software that automatically adjust colors (for LCD/CRT monitors) to optimal settings?

BRIGHTNESS MANAGMENT

My Dell 2001fp is pretty bright even if I set the brightness to zero. I must be doing something wrong!?!

Also, same as color management, any software that automatically adjust to good brightness default settings? ("Good" may be in the eyes of the beholder, but I think it's hard to know what setting is best for your eyes/head in the long run.) Perhaps also some easily accessed profiles; one for day, one for night?

Please feel free to add your own tips and tricks, and hopefully assist me with some answers.

Though it's useful for both single and multi monitors, I'm a big fan of AllSnap (freeware).

Heya, heya, I second that! One of the best software tools I've ever used.

Regarding the BRIGHTNESS: here is what I did:

right-click on desktop, open Properties: go to Settings Tab, press Advanced button. That opens up the video card screen which has other tabs which allow adjustment of brightness, gamma, contrast, etc. Just find the right tab there, adjust, and you will be all set (hopefully). At least, this worked for ATi Radeon X800XT video card; I would guess it would work for other video cards as well.
