11 players left in a 974 person tourny. was not worried about hanging on to move up a higher in the money....i wanted to go for the win. big bling is 8K
Seat 1: Hunter4AA (129204 in chips) Seat 2: wilder007 (255877 in chips) Seat 3: Mittman84 (94660 in chips) Seat 5: holla-jonny (60607 in chips) Seat 6: Hawk818 (186262 in chips) Seat 8: DESERTCREEK (112298 in chips) Hunter4AA: posts the ante 400 wilder007: posts the ante 400 Mittman84: posts the ante 400 holla-jonny: posts the ante 400 Hawk818: posts the ante 400 DESERTCREEK: posts the ante 400 Hawk818: posts small blind 4000 DESERTCREEK: posts big blind 8000 *** HOLE CARDS *** Dealt to Mittman84 [Td Tc] Hunter4AA: folds wilder007: calls 8000 Mittman84: raises 24000 to 32000 holla-jonny: folds Hawk818: folds DESERTCREEK: raises 79898 to 111898 and is all-in wilder007: folds Mittman84: calls 62260 and is all-in so is this a very fishy mistake that i made at 3am or was it the correct call given that my goal was 1st, not to just hang on. |

Re: input please
First of all, of course our ultimate goal is always to win. However, that doesn't mean you take unnecessary risks to move up. You need to think about each situation in terms of whether or not it's profitable (i.e. $EV). And when evaluating, we look at the impact of the decision on our liklihood to finish at all of the various payout levels. So making a decision that will very likely move you up to the next payout level is much better than one that improves your odds of coming in first but with a tremendous chance of busting out. Nuf said about that.
I don't think this was a bad decision. The early limper is the big stack and can be limping with a wide range of hands. If you haven't seen him limp frequently, I'd be cautious and would consider just calling. But if he does limp a lot, I see no reason why you don't push. TT is a strong hand. You'll be shortstacked but still have a few chips left if you lose. And if the early limper had a marginal hand you'll drive him out and isolate the raiser. |
