Default Online is ruining me for B&M play

I've been 2-3 tabling microlimits online - anywhere from $.5/1 to $2/4. When you got three of these things open, and given the play rate online, you figure that in a couple hours, you're bound to see a pretty decent scoop in an average session.

So, for the first time in about a month, I hit up the local B&M and played some $2/4 and $5/10. I found it excruciating. For starters, I'm not seeing 140 hands per hour (like I would three-tabling online), so after a couple hours, I might not even see a playable hand.

Secondly, I was completely unprepared for just how BAD the average B&M player is, and almost totally failed to adjust my play to compensate.

Adjust my play? Time and time again, I saw that the A3 I folded to an ugly looking flop would have been a total nut low, even though there are no 2s on the board. So loose that we're seeing 6 people to the flop on an 8 handed table, and people are betting/raising with two pair when the board's showing a possible straight and a possible flush.

To illustrate, the one decent hand I had during one two hour session was dragging half a monster pot with the low end of a middling straight (9 high when J high was a possibility). Why was I even playing garbage like 2578? Because I was in the BB and EVERYONE called the one raise. I flopped a wraparound to a crappy straight, and although I felt like an idiot chasing down the sucker end of a middle straight, my hand was so much stronger than the other highs that went to the showdown that I had to wonder why I was even worrying.

What got me is that when the board paired, I almost never saw a full house; when I saw a three flush on the board, I almost never saw a flush; when I saw a straight on the board, I just saw people showing down with 2 pair, or sometimes, one pair.

Where the heck were the nut hands? I mean with most of the table calling the flop, you'd think that SOMEONE would have the decent hands, but no one ever seemed to. Were they folding them?

I could have made a lot more money if I chased my four outers (since unbeknownst to me, the two pair I was folding was already ahead of everyone betting against the three flushes), and showed down my non-nut lows.

All of which would be total leaks on Party.

My only sadness was that aside from having online induced ADD, none of these tables kept going long enough to put in a decent length session. People kept busting out and the tables kept breaking.

Sadly, no, but I got a big kick out of watching her play before I managed to get a seat.

Sadly, when she was playing (or at least the woman who I think is her), the $5/10 table was full with a waiting list that just wasn't moving. I was stuck playing $2/4 with a bunch of other donks.

toots,

seems to me like you're doing well. quadrupling your initial bankroll in a month is nothing to scoff at no matter what limit you're playing at. keep your spirits up. and whenever you come close to getting down, just remember this and i'm sure you will sleep well: the o/8 players you see are not nearly as bad as they seem; they're worse. having 4 cards instead of 2 just doubles (or would that be sixtuple?)their mistakes. if you need real proof, step into any b&m casino =)

cheers!

here's a story you might enjoy from the last time i played 4-8 half-kill.

the game's 8-handed, i'm 2 off the button in a half kill pot, with the kill posted by the small blind. i open with A234 double-suited. CO, who limped in the previous 3 pots, immediately reraises me, making it 18 to go. SB folds, BB calls. i call.

flop comes 2-3-7 rainbow. BB checks, i bet, he raises, BB calls two bets cold, i reraise, he caps, BB folds angrily.

turn is another deuce, for 2-2-3-7. i bet, he raises again, i reraise, and he finally slows down to call me.

river is a king, for 2-2-3-7-K, no flush is out there. i bet. he calls. i scoop the pot. before he mucks his hand, he says to me, "you got lucky on me there, i had you before the flop," and proceeds to show me 6-6-8-8. i try not to be totally stunned, and manage to mutter, "yeah, bad beat."

for the next five minutes, he goes on and on about how many hands he could have made with his 6's and 8's. i just nod my head in agreement and buy him his next bud light.

in his defense, they were double-suited...

Yes, that's about the level of play I was seeing.

It's excruciating to be sitting at a table with that stuff going on, yet never catch a decent starting hand.

But, I can't really say I was card dead. The game just didn't go on long enough for me to expect to see many good hands.

What amazes me, the players on UB appear to be tighter than the players on party, but they still show down the same crap hands. I would swear these guys fold A2.
