Re: Inside Santa\'s Mind: Need a Unique Holiday Gift Idea?
In 2001, on December 18th, nearly 100 years after the Wright brother's first flight, Michael Moshier, Robert Bulaga, and a crack development team, achieved the first controlled manned flight in the SoloTrek XFV aircraft...
Big deal! Didn't "Fan Man" do this a decade ago? Do you remember the boxing match he flew into (Holyfield-Bowe?)? |

Re: Inside Santa\'s Mind: Need a Unique Holiday Gift Idea?
Hmm, Fan Man? I know about his guy:
http://www.rocketmaninc.com/index2.htm But he uses a rocket belt. They're great, but so limited in flight duration. Did Fan Man use some kind of contraption like the solo-trek, or was it perhaps a parachute/fan setup? What they really need is a devise no larger than a rocket belt, but much quieter, and with a much longer flight time. They had 'em on the Jetsons, and that show was a long time ago. So I don't see why they don't have 'em today. |

Re: Inside Santa\'s Mind: Need a Unique Holiday Gift Idea?
all those contraptions are too dangerous as they do not allow for any glide if you lose power. there is no autorotation like in a heliocopter. you go straight down. looks like fun though.
is this what you do with your time now john. surfing the net for weird things to look at. |

Re: Inside Santa\'s Mind: Need a Unique Holiday Gift Idea?
Ray - That thing has some kind of ejection system. So it's totally safe. Actually, I wondered how the ejection system would work when you're flying about 50 feet off the ground, as they describe, and you're trying to get your chute to open before you go |||THONK|||. Now the rocket belt has no safety backup at all. I guess there's always auto-arm-flap.
How do I spend my time? Well, I don't have as much as you, Ray, 'cuz I still use caps. But I'm still working on a thing or two, in between hanging around, playing hide-'n-seek and stuff. But sometimes I do find things like this: http://www.earstudio.com/projects/listeningPost.html |

John,
It's been a long time since I've been in NYC, but this "sounds" like a fun exhibition. (Of course, I like having MRI's done; there's something about the rythmic pounding I enjoy.) Last time I went was for an exhibit at the Whitney, and I found out that I can see the Met, Whitney, and quite a few bookstores in one (long) day. John |
