raise this flop ?

I think the rest of the way I played this poorly seems to have resulted from this guy never reraising me. Not sure where I could play this different beyond calling the flop which doesn't seem to let me isolate. No read on the villain.

looking back I have a good read on this guy now, haha.

Yeah I would have raised that flop. It seems your basically raising for information, to see if he really has the trips and then when you bet on the turn, I'm guessing you would have been pretty confident. I would have done the same.
