Default computer performance

or in this case, lack of.

mine was just really really slow. i was four tabling but also had a few other sites up as well collecting data. here is what i had running:

two party skins
pacific
Handgrabber (pacific/PT add on)
PT (importing party and pacific HH's every 5 minutes)
gametime
Itunes
couple of excel spread sheets
couple word docs
a few internet explorer and firefox pages
trillian

what is the main culprit? i usually have this many going and it never seemse to be as slow as it was today.'

also, is there anything in general i should be doing on a regular basis to improve performance?

thanks

That's quite a bit of stuff running and will even give good computers periodic slow-down issues. I would suggest only having firefox open, as I believe having both FF and IE open more memory will be used.

The only regular maintenance that seems to apply is defragging.

You give no details about your hardware, but that is a lot of stuff to have running at the same time. I'm not sure that any single application is the "main culprit". I think that you probably have so much software running at once that you are running low on memory or system resources. I would suggest that you close the stuff you don't really need to be running. Also, adware/spyware could be an issue. Scan your machine with Adaware, Spybot or Microsoft Antispyware to be sure.

Are you running AdAware regularly? Defrag your hard drive lately? Check Task Manager, what do you have running that is eating up resources.

double click "My computer" right click your hard drive. Choose properties, then click on the "tools" tab. then click defragment now.
