Yes. From the article it's obvious that the idea has gained wide support in England. In fact, it stated at least 94% of Londoners agree with the passage of a new law barring pointed knives.

Oh wait. No. It didn't.

I don't have to read the story to answer this one.

NO IT'S NOT!!!

I don't care how ridiculous the example is, we can always pull back from it. The slippery slope argument is one of the weakest out there. I really hope my sarcasm detector is broken on this one.

Default A rope trick

From your link :

[ QUOTE ]
The researchers note that the rate of violent crime in Britain rose nearly 18 percent from 2003 to 2004, and that in the first two weeks of 2005, 15 killings and 16 nonfatal attacks involved stabbings.

Dr. Emma Hern of the West Middlesex University Hospital in London said "One third of murder victims are now stabbed to death. We came up with the idea and tossed it into the pot to get people talking about crime reduction. Whether it's a sensible solution to this problem or not, I'm not sure."

[/ QUOTE ]

The notion seems funny but it shouldn't be. We have a scientisfic study worrying about the misuse of kitchenware and the dangers posed from the proximity and availablity of them in instances of violence, especially domestic violence. It's an alert signal.

If you discover that one third of all murders involve the use of frisbees, you start worrying about the goddamn contraptions too.

Why not. Most people are dumber than the pet rocks they bought.

Guns are useful, too. I think you meant that knives have *other* normal uses around the house.
