Default I tried a free showdown play....

How's this?

Guy raises, I 3-bet with AKo. Flop bricks. He bets, I call. Turn: brick. He bets, I raise for a free showdown.

Is this decent with no read?

No, but it's an easy mistake to make. He's not folding a pair (1 reason to raise for a free showdown). If you are ahead, you are ahead by a lot and don't want him to fold. Finally you'll get 3-bet by good middle pairs once in a while and that really sucks because AK still have good outs against almost all pairs that don't cap preflop.

Think specifically about the hands you will get to fold with this move.

Well, you nailed it. He had TT, and I did get my free showdown, but I see why this wasn't a good move.

I've got close to 70,000 hands of shorthanded play and I'm still a freaking dumbass.

I don't know that we always need to showdown here against a lot of opponents.

It's true. Not many opponents are capable of bluffing 3 streets with ace high. But if you want to go to showdown, call, call is a better way to get there with this hand then raising for a free showdown.
