sucked out but did I make the right call Set hand 1KNL
3 handed 1000NL Can I get away from this here? I think a better line would have been to reraise flop maybe, but I am new to this NL thing I'm not sure. any advice appreciated.

Re: sucked out but did I make the right call Set hand 1KNL
Villian is the BB and could have any two cards.
He played the hand real fast on a fairly drawless board, so a straight is unlikely (for typical player) Other than the straight, the only hand that has you beat right on this board is 55 (with the unlikely exception of AA). Likely (well... possible, considering the turn re-raise) hands that you have beat are any Aces up hand. I don't think it's too common that somebody plays the straight this fast in an unraised pot, but I think 55 is a definate possibility, and would be my number one concern. However, given his re-raise on the turn, he's obviously not too worried about straight out there (Admittedly, not too many players limp with 24, but you are the small blind and 24s is a possible limping hand) Which either means he has it himself, has 55, or is a dumbass with two pair. Not sure if I could muck it in the heat of battle... but in retrospect, it seems like a laydown. I think villian has 55 here fairly often. Maybe that's weak-tight... Honestly, though, I think your line is fairly good, as Aces up will very likely call that turn check/raise and a decent bet on the river. Sounds like villian did have the straight and you got lucky on this one, though. (Might want to make your post title less obvious next time) |

it's curious to me how people who are "new to this no limit thing" decide to jump into 5/10 NL...

Looks good.
You could 3-bet the flop but I like your line more. |

If you can find a way to get off of that hand, you're a better player than most...

Re: sucked out but did I make the right call Set hand 1KNL
With the party change a lot of 15/30, 10/20 6max, 30/60 players jumped into the high stakes NL..it's not uncommon. Look at posters like 1800gambler, he was a huge NL player and then just went to 15/30 limit...There are a handful of players who's ability in this game is good enough that they can take the principles and theory they have learned in one game and apply it to another i.e. jay. I for one despite playing 5/10 NL mostly, could not just jump into a 15/30 limit game.

Re: sucked out but did I make the right call Set hand 1KNL
I'm in the same boat. I learned poker playing 3-6 limit on paradise in 2000 - those games were tough back then and I ended up making about $10 / hour at the one table I used to play. If I wanted to go back to limit, I'd have to start at like 5-10 probably and see what happened. No way would I win at 15-30 right away.
