Default Thrown Off By An OOP Min-Raise

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $ BB (10 handed) converter

MP3 ($100)
CO ($81.2)
Button ($51.2)
SB ($93)
BB ($130.64)
UTG ($212.1)
Hero ($110.7)
UTG+2 ($95.85)
MP1 ($128.4)
MP2 ($105.53)

Preflop: Hero is UTG+1 with Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], Q[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. SB posts a blind of $0.5.
<font color="#666666">1 fold</font>, <font color="#CC3333">Hero raises to $3</font>, UTG+2 calls $3, <font color="#666666">5 folds</font>, <font color="#CC3333">SB (poster) raises to $4.5</font>, BB calls $4, Hero calls $2, UTG+2 calls $2.

i really don't know whether to call or raise here, i only have a few hands with villian so no read

Flop: ($20) 5[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 4[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(4 players)</font>
SB checks, BB checks, <font color="#CC3333">Hero bets $10</font>, UTG+2 folds, SB calls $10, BB folds.

a half-pot bet felt like the best way to see where i'm at

Turn: ($40) 7[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(2 players)</font>
SB checks, Hero checks.

River: ($40) Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(2 players)</font>
<font color="#CC3333">SB bets $15</font>, <font color="#CC3333">Hero raises to $40</font>, SB calls $25.

Final Pot: $120

the turn and river aren't that interesting, but preflop and flop is really where i don't know what to do

I woulda fired back and made it like 13 or 14, maybe even 15, I don't like those other callers preflop.

the problem with this is it's hard to win much money if your hand is best in my experience

You played the hand fine. If the raise came after you and not from the blinds, I'd recommend a re-raise. Since you have position and a solid hand a call is fine here. The rest is good imo.

I take that back. I just re-looked at the hand and didn't realize there was a caller in between. I'd re-raise 2x here. If you don't it's going to be a tough hand from that point on. You're not going to know if you're behind or ahead or what.
