Cold call raise - aggressive on tough board
I had a couple of questions about this one. I hate cold-calling raises (this is the first time I have in over 1300 hands). Was this a good play? Also, I got aggressive given the action on the board and reads on opponents; does anyone disagree? Finally, I think I wussed it up on the river.
UTG - Total LAG over about 45 hands. I put him on a pocket pair no higher than JJ Paradise Poker 0.10/0.20 Hold'em (8 handed) converter Preflop: Hero is MP2 with Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], K[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. Re: Cold call raise - aggressive on tough board
I like this play all right if you assume that people behind you are going to cold call too. Value bet the river.

Re: Cold call raise - aggressive on tough board
Id re-raise preflop. We want the button. I only cold call in the CO or button (if ever).

That's interesting - I hate to admit that I didn't even consider reraising, but I'm sure it's probably better than calling.

Re: Cold call raise - aggressive on tough board
why dont we think UTG has an ace? He raised preflop UTG. is it because he didnt cap the flop? i feel like we might be losing this hand more often than not.

Re: Cold call raise - aggressive on tough board
KQs is one of the few hands we can consider cold call preflop, but I still think it should be a raise still.
Irish: I'd be more scared of a flop with one ace in it, do you see why? |

[/ QUOTE ] This is exactly what I was thinking. I pretty much discounted trips when he bet the flop, too. |

Re: Cold call raise - aggressive on tough board
That doesn't mean he doesn't have the ace either, just means we need to watch out for raises here and there.
I'd bet the river too for value. A set wouldn't smooth call teh turn. |

Re: Cold call raise - aggressive on tough board
Some observations...
1) Any thinking player knows that you don't have an ace when you raise the flop. 2) You are going to be in a tough spot if you get check/raised on the turn by a thinking player. He already knows that you don't have an ace, but we have no idea if he has an ace or not. Similar comments apply if the villian decides to stop and go on 4th street. 3) Bet the river for value. 3-bet if you've seen him raising hands like K5s, A6o, JTo, etc.
