Default River - Value Bet AK?

B & M: Las Vegas..... 2/4

Stacks...

Hero about 500...
Villan about 650...

$2/4

Villan is new to the table... first hand.... an older guy... and raises to $14.

I am in the cut-off with AK suited...... and I raise to $65 straight..... he calls.

Flop is AQ4 rainbow. About $136 in the pot.

He bets out $30... and I raise to $125 straight... and he calls.

Turn is a 7 (4th suit).. and goes check check.... I didn't like the call at all..... I had no reads on him... he just moved from a must move table...... I thought he had a weaker A than I did....

River is a T..... he checks...

What now?

With no reads on the villian, I think that a check is in order.

What hands can he call your river bet with that you have beat? AJ? KK? Seems like pretty poor play by your opponent PF with AJ. And he likely would have re-raise PF with KK.

With no draws on that flop (Except for the sweet gutshot draw with KJ or KT, which won't call anyway), villian is probably either getting stubborn with KK, slowplaying, or playing some sloppy cards PF.

If you check, you'll get to take a look at his hand, which is probably worth more than the value bet here, anyway.

There isn't a lot of value in this bet, so I don't think it could even be called a value bet. Check behind.

Against an unknown with no read, I usually check behind in this spot. And then I usually wince when he turns over A8s, nod respectfully when he shows me AQ, sigh when he tables AT, or chuckle when he has KK.

You can bet the turn, depending on your read.
Check behind on the river. If he shows down A4s, remember it.

I actually checked behind and he showed down AJ and I took the pot.......

I only posted because two different people claimed there was at least an argument for a value bet.... but I didn't agree...... I figured with no read and a "weak" A there was at least a decent chance he had two pair... AQ or "hopefully not" AT....
