villain is 2/38 in ~40 hands. that's all i know about him.

Re: 99 hand - extract the most
How has his post-flop play been? If he is in 38% of the time and is down to t850, I am guessing he limp/folds frequently.
Check/call and get to work on the turn. You want some hands other than trips to develop here (in a perfect world, the 10c/d/h will come on the turn) before you get to working the guy over. If the guy is loose/weak as he appears to be, then you are going to have a very tough time extracting anything from him unless you allow him to catch a hand. |

Re: 99 hand - extract the most
Since he's weak/loose, he's likely to call small bets trying to hit a hand. If he hits something, he'll call down larger turn/river bets. It's unlikely he'll bet nothing if checked to, and if he happens to have a J then he'll raise the bet anyway. We can let him try to catch for free, but why do that when he'll pay?
I think I'd start with 90 on the flop and see what develops. |

Re: 99 hand - extract the most
Bet 90 on this flop against a loose/weak player and you are looking at a fold 90% of the time if the flop didn't hit him square in the chops or catch overpair preflop.
Whatever you lose not betting this flop is more than made up for by (1) letting him take off another card and possibly make a hand and (2) the appearance that a turn bet is an attempt to steal the pot. |

He's loose and weak, calling is what he does. [/ QUOTE ] my understanding is that loose is the opposite of weak. loose = calls a lot (pre or post) and weak = check/fold a lot (post). correct me if i'm wrong. |

[/ QUOTE ] no other reads. why would you assume he limps/folds a lot? why not assume that he calls down every time or that he likes to take a stab on a lot of flops then shut down? |

Re: 99 hand - extract the most

loose = calls a lot (pre or post) and weak = check/fold a lot (post). correct me if i'm wrong. [/ QUOTE ] I was thinking loose = calls a lot (pre and post) and weak = doesn't bet/raise without a monster, rarely (if ever) bluffs, not aggressive. So, I would think he would be calling a flop bet with little but not take a stab if you check it. If you check the flop and he hits something, he's probably going to be calling, but I was thinking he'll call a flop bet anyway. I guess this is more read dependant and most aren't going to call a flop bet so checking would be the better choice. I was just going off my read of your read, thinking he's calling anyway. Also, how does checking this flop affect your future flop bets or does it not matter at this point/this tournament? |
