Default End of a downswing (aka: why slowplaying is wrong)

So, I've been on a downswing ($300 at .5/1 and a little 1/2) for the past little bit. I guess I should have expected it after a 6bb/100 at .5/1 over 20k hands. Anyway, this hand symbolizes the end of my bad run

Party Poker 0.5/1 Hold'em (10 handed) converter

Preflop: Hero is CO with T[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img].
UTG calls, UTG+1 calls, UTG+2 calls, 3 folds, Hero raises, Button calls, 2 folds, UTG calls, UTG+1 calls, UTG+2 calls.

Flop: (11.50 SB) T[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], K[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 2[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (5 players)
UTG checks, UTG+1 checks, UTG+2 checks, Hero bets, Button calls, UTG folds, UTG+1 calls, UTG+2 calls.

Turn: (7.75 BB) T[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (4 players)
UTG+1 checks, UTG+2 checks, Hero bets, Button calls, UTG+1 folds, UTG+2 calls.

River: (10.75 BB) T[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (3 players)
UTG+2 checks, Hero bets, Button raises, UTG+2 folds, Hero 3-bets, Button caps, Hero calls.

Final Pot: 18.75 BB

Results in white below:
Hero has Ts Ac (four of a kind, tens).
Button has Ks Kh (full house, kings full of tens).
Outcome: Hero wins 18.75 BB.

Congrats. It always feels nice to get out of a bad run. Make sure you don't get disheartened if you fall back in temporarily.

Ooh, me too! I started off white hot on Paradise (+75BBs in a few hundred hands), then managed to piss it all away due to bad cards and worse play. This hand broke that downslide, more or less (brought me back up to above zero overall).

Sometimes your premium holdings do hold up to many fish. The last fifteen times I played this hand someone would show a 3 or two spades. A nice reminder why you play your premium hands hard.

Paradise Poker 0.25/0.50 Hold'em (9 handed) converter

Preflop: Hero is MP2 with K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img].

Flop: (20.40 SB) 4[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 5[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 6[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (5 players)
BB bets, MP1 calls, Hero raises, MP3 calls, CO calls, BB calls, MP1 calls.

Turn: (15.20 BB) Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (5 players)
BB checks, MP1 checks, Hero bets, MP3 calls, CO calls, BB calls, MP1 calls.

River: (20.20 BB) 2[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (5 players)

Final Pot: 23.20 BB

Results in white below:

Reminds me of what happened earlier to me. I was running cold today, down about 30 BB in about 300 hands, and as I was just about to stop for the day, I get AA on one table, and KK on the other. I think to myself, finally, I catch some good cards to get some money back as I quit, perfect! My AA holds up, but my KK got cracked by raggy 2 pair Q2o (damnit!), so I ended up losing all the money I made from my AA hand =(.

Now that I reread the hand, it seems his slowplay actually saved him money.

If he 3bets preflop, you will call. Then you will check the flop, get bet at, and call him, thinking you are drawing to 5 outs in this hand. When you hit your trip T on the turn, you will probably check/raise and cap his 3bet. When another T comes on the river, it will bet/raise/3bet/cap again.

Seems like he got the better end of this one... =P

I was just thinking the same thing, although let's face it, the guy with the KK was just awful preflop and on the flop.

Yes, villain played this hand horribly, but in fairness to him, you were going to lay a wicked beat on him anyway.

You're getting to the turn, right?
