Re: A2 off BB free look, played correctly??
I don't think the pot is big enough to warrant a call on the river. (I don't think he's betting a worse hand often enough to make calling profitable.)

I bet the turn, bet the river. Why did you choose to check the river? There are 4 to a gutshot straight on the board, but I guess my line would depend on my reads. Against a tricky agressive player (i.e. full of chit) I'd call a river raise. However, if another played called two cold I think I'd dump it since you can't beat any other ace.

Figured pot was too small and too many people to be agressive in that situation. Was I wrong? I just figured Id keep it to 1 bet if I was going to pay him off.

I agree, the pot is on the small side. You're not going to make a better hand fold, so check/calling is probably okay.

Re: A2 off BB free look, played correctly??
Call. Although the straight-keycard is the 7 and so the 5 on the river makes anyone with a 7 a straight, there are some reasons to call:
1. a guy with a better ace or aces-up would probably have raised on the turn. 2. there is a two-flush on the flop (some of your opps will perhaps have a busted spade-flush-draw). 3. some of the guys can have an busted straight-draw. 4. They may have the idea to bluff with a busted draw. 5. You can split against A2, A3, A4 6. The pot is large. Most times you will lose against a straight, a better ace or anything else, you only need to win it every 9th hand. |

Re: A2 off BB free look, played correctly??
If you were going to check call the river, it would be better to bet/fold instead. If someone hit their straight they would certainly raise you and you could fold easily. If no one completed their draw, then you extract one more bet from anyone who'll call.

I think it's important to point out that the vast majority of the time the best our Hero can do here is split the pot.
The rest of the time he's losing. |

Against a field this big I'd check/fold the turn, because the odds are overwhelming that someone has an A bigger than yours. It's also likely that this bozo caught his gutshot on the river. I'd fold to the river bet, the pot is small and you aren't beating much. |
