what does one do with those?

one enters the freeroll tourneys with 1100 and 2200 point fees. I think there's a 500 point one as well but the overlay is not worth it.

I have over 15k player points sitting there doing nothing . . .

i have lots of poker points as well.

I think they're in the "special" tab in the multitable tournaments. They're listed as something like PP$1000_special or something.
