Party Poker 3/6 Hold'em (9 handed) converter

Preflop: Hero is CO with T[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. MP1 posts a blind of $3.
2 folds, MP1 (poster) checks, 2 folds, Hero calls, 2 folds, BB checks.

Flop: (3.33 SB) T[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 2[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (3 players)
BB bets, MP1 calls, Hero raises, BB calls, MP1 calls.

Turn: (4.66 BB) 8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (3 players)
BB checks, MP1 checks, Hero bets, BB calls, MP1 calls.

River: (7.66 BB) J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (3 players)
BB bets, MP1 calls, Hero folds.

How freaking bad is this fold? I couldn't give the BB any other hand but the diamonds. Should I be raising and folding to a 3-bet? Dammit I know I f'ed this one up.

Pretty damn horrendous. Just shrug your shoulders and call here. BB may have backed into a straight also or hit J10 and figures, "I'm calling so I might as well bet." Pay it off everytime.

I would also raise this preflop after the poster checks and others have folded.

You might be beat here but you do beat top pair, 2-pair, set... surely that is good at least some of the time. you have to think a bit more if this comes back 2 to you but you must at least call this river bet.

That's going to be tricky since he's closing the action on the river.

A flush might be a likely hand but a nine or even some two pair you beat is just as likely. Getting those odds you need to call the river, you'll get at least half the pot more than often enough.

I'm not sure that this fold is as bad as you make it sound. BB likely has at least a 9, if not diamonds. MP1 obviously likes his hand too. The pot has 11.66BB when it gets to you. Sometimes you will win a piece of it. Sometimes you will win none of it. Rarely will you win all of it. I think this decision is close.
