Would you prefer a WSOP or WPT championship entry?
Assuming that you could have just one...
For most of us amateurs, I say it's the WSOP. Much more dead money involved. |

WSOP. Even though the main event field of 5000-6000 almost impossible to win, it's all about the prestige.

Re: Would you prefer a WSOP or WPT championship entry?
Umm...you mean if someone was giving me one for free.
One is a $25k entry...the other is a $10k entry. Better value with the $25k entry. This isn't even close and I consider myself an amateur as far as major tournaments are concerned (I have played in only one). This is like an online site telling me that I have my choice of a free-entry to their $250 buy-in tournament or their $100 buy-in tournament. Even if the field is going to be larger, and generally not as strong, in the $100 tournament I am still going to take the $250 tournament. Same thing if I was offered a free-entry to a $20 SNG or a $50 SNG. You get the point (I hope you do anyway). |

WPT Championship, hands down. Although I won't complain about a free WSOP seat.

Re: Would you prefer a WSOP or WPT championship entry?
I agree Bob. It would have to be A LOT of dead money to make up for the extra $15k the WPT championship seat has in face value.
Along the same lines, I'd take the 50k free seat at the Plaza above either of these. You can have your prestigious titles, I'll take value. |

Re: Would you prefer a WSOP or WPT championship entry?
I think just winning money has enough prestige in and of itself.
The one guy on my rec-league soccer team who knew I was playing the PPM IV cruise blabbed to the whole team that I won money (or word spread or something). This was my first tournament. When I got back and they were asking questions about it they acted like I was some sort of poker-God for finishing in 177th place to win $5215 (and that 1st and 2nd paid $1.5-mil and $1-mil). Sure...Gus Hansen would love to win the WSOP....but you don't think he has a ton of pride in the WPT titles that he HAS won?? or would take great pride in winning the $25k tourney at the Bellagio next week? Curiously though....whether or not Raymer or Moneymaker would say "I'd trade that WSOP title I won IF I could have won a prize $1-million greater (either $6-mil or $3.5-mil) via the WPT championship." Since both got book-deals (and other endorsement stuff) out of their WSOP titles I am guessing they would opt to keep the bracelet for a prize a million-dollars less. But if you DOUBLED the prize they would have won (to $10-mil and $5-mil) I suspect both would be willing to trade in their bracelet for the extra cash. |

Re: Would you prefer a WSOP or WPT championship entry?
If you would take the WPT because of the increased entry, I wonder how your EV calculations are really affected by endorsement money off of a win in the WSOP v. the WPT?

[/ QUOTE ] Assuming that you are getting in for little money through a satellite and you don't consider yourself good enough to make the money unless you get really lucky, the obvious answer is the WSOP. With more hours of the WSOP presented on TV than the WTP, you have a greater chance of face time on ESPN. |

Re: Would you prefer a WSOP or WPT championship entry?
WPT (25k) and it's not even close.
Regardless of "prestige" or "dead money", your EV from a 25k event is going to be higher than a 10k event, plain and simple. Unless you're playing for reasons other than money, it's WPT hands down. |

Re: Would you prefer a WSOP or WPT championship entry?
Hardly. You forget the fact that a 25k WPT Champ. field is going to be much, MUCH stronger than the WSOP 10k.
Sure, you may win more, but there ain't much dead money. |
