I think against a tighter or trickier guy I'd bet the turn, but against a loose passive guy taking your free card is good.

I guess I was thinking there's a good chance he'd fold a pocket pair lower than a 9 or incorrectly draw with something like QJ. I think you're right though, take the free card.
