Time to Move up or Just stay put ....
Still early in 1st real try playing Holdem to make $$ down the line. Started out with 100 in 1-2... No where near the 300 xBB as recomend. I was willing to put it in as went along. I 3 weeks in playing about 2000 hands at 30 hours.
1st weekend of play (Not in stat tracker) was by far my best. Went from 100 to 410. (10 hours of play) I was running very good. Over the last 2 weeks I have not been running as good but been playing well. I only had small lossing sessions. $5 here $10 but have but up to $540. Not quite a 300 x bb yet. With this small sample size to stay 1-2 until I get 300x to go 2-4 or should think about a jump sooner? I only once went away from 1-2 to play another level in this time frame and that was 3-6 kill. I was feeling luck it was late, possible bad jugment there but Flop % over 60 and pot's where huge. (Good jugment there) and played for 15 min and left up 50 bucks was getting tired. (Good Jugment again). I just could not at least make attemt at such loose game. 1-2 has been running around 33 flop rate. Just need to share and get feed back. Thanks in advance. |

Don't jump early. If you are looking to mix it up, try some 6-max.

Take your time. It takes awhile to learn how not to be results oriented.

Re: Time to Move up or Just stay put ....
Before you make the move, understand the what's and why's of basic limit poker play. I'm not entirely convinced you do. Read the hand posts here, ask yourself what you would do, and then read what others have said if you understand the theory and reasoning behind each move. Get your poker lessons cheap while you can, don't be in a hurry to move up.

Re: Time to Move up or Just stay put ....
I don't mean to hi-jack the thread...BUUUUT...
I just got a new job making 40-50k a year. I normally play $1/2 full tables and have a $800 BR for it. I could easily move up to $2/4 (which I have), but I don't feel comfortable yet. So, I started playing some $1/2 6-max to get used to the aggressive play. Am I on the right track? |

Re: Time to Move up or Just stay put ....
1/2 6max = much goodness. The play is the most atrocious anywhere and I definitly find the increased shorthanded agression useful at 2/4. I feel I am now slightly better at blinds play and much better at open raising/folding from later positions.
