I give it a big thumbs up. It is a valuable book with great info, but I think it is more useful if you are willing to take some time to think about what he wrote. You can't just read it and absorb the knowledge, you have to read it and think about the material in connection with your real life opponents. That could probably be said about many other good poker books as well.

It gives alot of insight into how your opponents think, and why they act the way they do. (For example it makes a convincing argument that many fish actually know how to play winning poker, and why they don't.)

I'll admit that when I first started reading this book I did not like it, mainly the preachy 'overcome your psychological problems and learn to play tight' advice and questionaires, which I didn't feel helped me at all. However, it gives valuable insight into the motivations and weaknesses of other players who have less than desireable playing styles and how you can exploit that. Also, Dr. Al gives good advice on how to deal not just with a loose aggressive player for example, but also a loose aggressive game. The most valuable advice in the whole book though IMHO, is the discussion about 'visible thinking', which should help any player develop a thought process to make better poker decisions.

The book has some good nuggets of information but after I read the book I was still looking for more.
There are ideas that if applied properly will pay for the cost of the book but much of the information was a little too generic for me.

Perhaps I should read it a 2nd time....
