SSH specifically says that in a loose game you can cold call from MP with JTs. What gives?

I thought I remembered reading that you shouldn't be cold calling with anything less than AQs. I could be wrong, though.

FWIW the typical online .50/1 game would fall under tight rather than loose.

Don't coldcall pre-flop. Even though it was a big pot. Probably three bet the flop, to see if he caps it with an overpair. If so check call till the river, raise that 10 on the river though.

If by standard you mean that hero is drawing either dead or to just 2 outs on the turn then yes I agree. I would fold the turn FWIW.

This is crazy given his range of hands. All we have left to draw for is a BD flush and a miracle boat which we hit to bust his flopped set.
