Jacks are so tough to play--Stars rebuy
About 200 remain from the starting 800.
I have t53k, avg. is about 35k. So I'm in good shape. 600/1200/a75. MP (33k) opens the pot to t3600. Guy right after him calls all-in for t1700. Then the SB (t35k) makes it 12k. I'm in the BB w/ JJ. Let's assume I'm not at all worried about the original raiser, my only concern is the Small Blind's reraise. I can fold and still be in okay shape but if I win this pot I'll be double the avg. stack. So what to do with JJ? |

Re: Jacks are so tough to play--Stars rebuy
My weak-tight devil is saying that JJ looks a whole lot like 44 at this point. Any read on MP? If you are pretty sure a push will get him to fold that is one thing, but if he calls, the best case you can hope for is to be up against two guys with AK.
The other problem is that I don't think the SB is going to lay this down, and (absent any read) his re-raise says AK or AA-QQ. You are good enough not to take this chance. |

Re: Jacks are so tough to play--Stars rebuy
i'm usually more maniacal than most, and i think that's a fold. the SB reraising over a raise and a tiny all-in call is pretty intimidating. and just b/c MP might be opening light, doesn't mean there's no chance he has QQ+. SB's not going anywhere - i don't think you want to risk crippling yourself here.

Re: Jacks are so tough to play--Stars rebuy
If you aren't worried at all about the original raiser then SB's raise looks an awful lot like an attempt to isolate an all-in from a shortish stack. In that situation I would probably decide between raising to 22K or simply pushing it all in right there.
However, given the circumstances I think you fold this one and wait for a better spot. |

Re: Jacks are so tough to play--Stars rebuy
I would fold. Plenty of better places to invest money. You can't tell for sure if the original raiser has a real hand, the sb has defined his hand, I disregard the all-in guy, his portion of this pot is insignificant in my mind.
Although, I'm sure you didn't get to 53000 by only playing aces. |

Not that I have the experience but...
While the rereraise may be an isolation bet I think that there's a lot better spots to put money in. You could be taking JJ in a four handed pot, with at least one with an overpair to your JJ. For me it's an easy fold. |

Call. If you flop a set, break him. If you feel he still has you covered, you can fold. If an ace pops up and he treats it like a scare card, push and he'll fold his qq/kk unless he's an idiot.
The raise to me looks like an isolation raise, and it's quite possible that he just has some broadway cards, maybe AK or AQ. |

What do we think about SB trying to just isolate the MP? He doesn't need so much of a hand to do that right?

Re: Jacks are so tough to play--Stars rebuy
You are facing a bet, call, reraise. You are out of position unless MP fold. Best case scenario the SB has AK and where it is a coinflip. Granted you are getting the pot odds for this call, but it is very possible MP can reraise, then what do you do?
I would fold and pick a better spot to risk my larger than average stack. |

Re: Jacks are so tough to play--Stars rebuy
Unless you have a compelling read to the contrary, I'd have to assume he's doing it with some combination of overcards - so you're a coinflip, and with your experience and stack your better off waiting for a skill-based opportunity.
