tournament blackjack ROI
assuming you are a fairly expert blackjack counter who knows solid betting strategies, what is your ROI (rate of investment) in tournaments? obviously this would vary depending upon the structure of the tournament, but any rough estimations would be helpful. is it possible for a person to make a relatively good living by simply playing blackjack tournaments year round? would the variance be too harsh? what type of bankroll do you need in order to buyin to an event? (ie; $1k buyin, $50k bankroll.)

The extra 1-2% in EV you might get from counting is much less important than knowing how to use position on the last few hands. The variance is high, but there is a substantial skill factor and it's possible to have a high earn rate in the long-run assuming that you can find blackjack tournaments at significant stakes that don't charge excessive juice. I don't know if there are enough such tournaments to make a living off of, and if you have to leave town to play them travel costs can easily be higher than your EV from a small tournament. Do you know of any online blackjack tournaments on reputable sites? |
