If you're going to put a bet in on the river, wouldn't you be better off betting out and folding to a raise?

Yeah, that's specfically what I was wondering about. I'm not being called unless he hit the board, so betting wins me the pot exactly when I'm ahead. If I check and he bets, then I have a decision to make, and it's a tough one; I could behind, I could be facing a bluff (What was he pushing on the flop? A Q? K[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]? Who knows?). If I bet, and he raises, not having a read it's an easy fold; the average opponent won't bluff-raise the river.

So which line is better and why?

You got raised on the flop, you are beat. Fold the river unless you have a read on villian.
