Default Are either of these secure enough?

Say I want to play a game that requires port forwarding to play. How vulnerable is my computer/poker software if I forward only the ports I need for the game?

What If I turned off the router while playing, and just plugged in directly to my cable?

You'll be fine, unless somebody installed a key logger or another type of program that uses the same ports. It would definitely be infinitely more secure than playing with out using your router.
