what type of chips to use at 5/10
im going to turning stone this weekend and it will not be my first time playing live but it will be at my current limit, 5/10.
i would assume the standard chip is the $5 chip but what about for the small blind which is $2 and also the rake which is $3. I guess what im saying, is if i buyin for around 300, how much of each chip should i get? |

Just give the chip runner your money, if they have half a brain they'll bring you a decent amount of appropriate chips.
If you're playing in a room without a chip runner, then when you buy chips at the cage just tell the cashier what game you're playing and they'll set you up. |

Just get all $300 in red chips. When you have to post the small blind, throw out a red chip and the dealer will give you some white chips in change (unless you decide to play the small blind, then it doesn't matter). Get change back twice from folding the small blind (or win a pot with a few white in it) and you won't have to worry about it.

Just sit down with all red. The dealer will handle all the details for you. Sit down in middle position, wait to post, watch the action; you'll figure it out.

DO NOT SIT AT A RED CHIP GAME WITH YELLOW CHIPS!!
Well...at least that's what all the crabs at Foxwoods whine about! It's true...the yellow chips are haunted... (buy all red, the dealers will keep the action going/make change) -ZEN |

Re: what type of chips to use at 5/10
Mark, I have played the 5/10 and 3/6 at TStone, and I would suggest checking out 3/6 as well as the 5/10. From my experience playing both of these limits, the 3/6 is a much looser game. The caliber of play is about equal, but since the 5/10 uses a 1 chip structure, it plays tighter. There is a post somewhere on this forum that explains why 1 chip structure games tend to play tighter than games that use lots of chips (ie 3/6 with whites).
For 3/6, buy a rack of white and have extra cash avaliable in case. For 5/10, buy 2-300 all in red. The dealers have plenty of whites in their trays to exchange for drops and small blinds. Also, I will be there this weekend. I'l be playing 1-2NL, wearing a white Philadelphia Eagles hat and a sweatshirt. Feel free to say hi. |

Use casino chips...they usually frown upon people who bring their own from home.

Re: what type of chips to use at 5/10
Completely unrelated...
Why do casinos use 5s at 10/20 games when they have 10s? Wouldn't 10s make things much simpler? |
