doodleloodleooo,
wah wah wah

TGTB&TU had a much to short theme song (that plays over and over), and could someone explain to me why Blondie qualifies as "the good"?

On the other hand, Unforgiven is my favorite movie ever.

You can't seriously knock the music from GBU. There are so many awesome melodies/themes/etc in that movie. The main theme is great.

Blondie is good because he creates a moral code for himself in a lawless and amoral land.

I ended up going with GBU too. First, because the character development and acting are both spectacular. I mean, Unforgiven is great in both departments, but GBU is even better. This is partially just because it's longer, but it's still got the edge by a nose.

GBU also has an awesome plot, real sense of motion and development in that as well. Again, edges out Unforgive by a hair.

The visuals in GBU are better, more focus was placed on these, and it shows.

Basically, it's GBU by a nose in terms of acting, plot, cinematography, etc. Unforgiven is more of a stark, stunning movie, and its moral core is easier to crack open, but GBU has as much in subject matter there IMO and is just a bit more subtle. It draws different distinctions.

It's hard to pick but I had to say GBU in the end.

NT

EDIT: What also makes it close is that Unforgiven has the best ending of any movie, ever.

I can and I do. I watched that movie last night, and a haven't been able to stop humming that theme since. It's not that bad (I'd even say it's good), but they played it about 50 times to many.

As far as Blondie beeing good, I don't see him pulling a scam for money, then screwing his partner out of his half of the money (and coming close to killing him) as good.

True, but at the end he makes up for it when the stakes are higher. I agree, that is an inconsistency, but I like that he's not a perfect character.

Blurring the lines and destroying the classic western hero is why this worked in GBU and culminated in Unforgiven. I mean, in spite of all the "character flaws" you were still rooting for Blondie. All the little pretties in the cities loved Unforgiven but GBU is the mans-man movie. Give me GBU.

This is so off it is unbelievable. Unforgiven is one of the greatest FILMS ever. GBU is a pretty, over-long mess of a movie; not even the best of its genre, if you were to remove Unforgiven from the running.

Character development is better in GBU? Are you kidding me? These are gods and monsters, not people. Unforgiven has some people in it. It is in my mind a bitter refutation of western mythology, and Clint Eastwood directed, so no one can say [censored] about it.

I said I liked the character development in GBU because I puzzled over some of their actions more. Both movies have great characters - and Munny in Unforgiven is basically an extension of the imperfect hero from GBU and other earlier Eastwood movies.

I don't understand why you think it's too long or messy. It's a brilliantly made movie, nothing extraneous, lots of interesting twists. Do you have ADD?

Again, I didn't say anything bad about Unforgiven. I said I preferred GBU ever so slightly for a variety of reasons. The sheer impact of its characters is awesome. You're right, Unforgiven has some more 'human' characters, but that's what makes it the anti-Western in some ways.

GBU is basically a perfect Western; Unforgiven is something else. You can't rip GBU for creating the mythical characters so perfectly. That was the whole point.
