just bought a 21\" CRT and i still dont have 1600x1200
ok, can someone tell me wtf is a matter with this. i decide to buy a monitor off ebay with 1600x1200 so that i can 4table with no overlap. i come across this auction here:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...e=STRK:MEWN:IT i buy it. it comes in the mail. i just unpacked it and at first glance i was like WOW SWEET. i plug it in and the best resolution i get is 1280x1024. did the guy who sold me this monitor false advertise? is it a video card problem? my video card is a Gforce3 Ti200 64mb. |

Re: just bought a 21\" CRT and i still dont have 1600x1200
If the monitor has the same model number as the advertised in the Ebay auction, then you will probably need a new video card. The monitor specs from HP state that the max resolution is 1600x1200. Hope that helps.
What video card are you using? |

It is a video card problem.
Buy one with an extra DVI input, for two monitors at once! |

Don't assume it's your video card.
If you just plugged it in and expected it to be fully functional, that's your problem. You need to get/install the drivers for your specific monitor before specific resolutions are available. |

Go to nVidia.com and update your video card drivers. Update your monitor drivers if there are any.

It is a video card problem. [/ QUOTE ] You are the second person to assume this. No driver issues were mentioned by or to him. It's probably not the video card. EDIT- In fact, I know that video card probably supports that resolution. |

Go to nVidia.com and update your video card drivers. [/ QUOTE ] That's an idea, but I doubt it's the video card driver either. The new drivers aren't going to add resolutions. The old drivers work just fine for that. The only way it could be the video card driver is if the file was corrupted or the system was altered in some unintentional way by it. No, it's most likely the monitor driver or lack thereof. |

Re: just bought a 21\" CRT and i still dont have 1600x1200
My stone age 17 inch CRT monitors from 4 years ago support above 1600 X 1200 - LOL !!! Hard to believe that monitor wouldn't ... Then again this old monitor has the depth of a horses ass, wouldn't leave me any desk space at all if I used it

When I purchased a 1600 X 1200 CRT I had to update my driver, and this was on a fairly new notebook. Before the update I was having the same problem you are having.

Re: just bought a 21\" CRT and i still dont have 1600x1200
Yeah, same here. I 4-table with no overlap (1600x1200 setting) on my Sony Trinitron MultiScanG200. It's an excellent flat screen monitor (mind you, not flat panel...if the depth of the monitor is important, this ain't the one for you).
There are certainly better options as I'd still prefer a bigger screen, but you can likely get these things for about $40-$50 a piece on ebay so it's a very cheap option for dual monitor 8 tabling if you didn't want to spend much. And even better you can get a 21" Sony Trinitron monitor for under $100 if you look. This is probably my next option. Or the 24" widescreen. I say stick with the Sony Trinitron because it's simply the best deal/quality compromise out there (If the space the monitor takes up isn't important to you). Sony Trinitron is a brand I stick by for both tvs and monitors. The quality is unparalled and both my TV and monitor have lasted over 5 years. CRTs are better image quality and easier on the eyes (Ususally better dot pitch and Aperture Grille technology) than Flat Panels anyhow. |
