Do you like this line?
$100 max buy-in on UB. Blinds are $1-$.50:
Hero is MP2 with 99. 1 limpers to to Hero who calls. Button limps. SB completes. BB checks. Flop: Ax 8s 4s. All check to Button who bets $1. SB folds, BB folds, UTG + 2 folds. $1? I'm not folding my nines for 1 measley dollar, even with the ace out there. Hero calls. Turn: 7x Hero checks. Villain bets $1. Another freaking $1? This guy is weak. I'm taking this pot from him. Hero raises to $8. Villain calls. River: 5x This guys flush didn't make it. I will make him fold now. Hero bets $21 (pot-size). Villain calls. What do you think? Results (highlight to read): Villain shows A3 of spades. Villain wins $63 with a pair of Aces. Villain was on the nut flush draw with TP. His kicker didn't even play. He could only beat a bluff. Normally, I'd get raging mad, but I was having a good session in spite of the fact I bluffed away $30 here. I even thought that I might have the best hand when the flush didn't make it. The call is baffling, but I've seen dumber things I guess. Other than attempting to bluff someone who clearly didn't want to be bluffed, is there anything you would have done differently here? |

Re: Do you like this line?
Don't bluff a random online player. They'll call with medium pair.

Re: Do you like this line?
im not a huge fan of this play.
anything that calls a bet that big will beat you. if you put your opponent on a flush draw, your 99 has a VERY good showdown rate, being beat only by the ace high draw, which is indeed what he had. sorry to pick you apart on this play, also, if you are going to value bet, why such a huge bet? A smaller bet might have gotten a smaller pair to call, this will only get called by an ace. |

Re: Do you like this line?
If my read was correct and he was on the flush draw, my hand might be good and he isn't going to call anything anyway. I shouldn't bet if I think my 9s are probably good, because I can only get called by a better hand.
However, I felt extremely strongly that this guy was on the flush draw, and I knew if that was the case there was a good chance he was on the nut flush draw without a decent kicker. I couldn't beat that hand if it were the case. I thought I could play him off it with the river bet. I was wrong. Oh well. |
