Default www.gotomypc.com - Is Internet poker playable?

I have a tough question that hopefully somebody can answer.

This software allows remote connection from an outside computer to my home computer. Would this allow me to use my poker client at home to play online? Is it fast? Typically much much bandwidth is used? Is it secure for poker-playing purposes?

Windows XP has built-in remote desktop, no need to use third-party software. With that said, yes you can play poker remotely using those kinds of apps. How secure is it? Depends on the remote desktop software you're using. If the connection is encrypted, then I'm sure it's quite secure. If not, well, there are plenty of others to choose from.

Hope this helps!

Could you then use this to collude with yourself?

I.e. you could be playing 2 seperate poker clients, under different usernames, from different PCs, each with a different IP address.

As Party can take screen shots of your PC, I guess they could detect this??

I would not condone cheating, it's just a theoritical question.

Where is XP's built in remote desktop? And how do I use it? Assume I don't know anything about computers.

It is really terrible to play with remote desktop. But this said, I have done remote desktop between continents and it can be done, but it is pretty terrible.

Unfortunately, you could definitely use this to collude with yourself. At the same time, you could also just pay $5 a month and get a second IP address from your ISP and use THAT to collude as well. This would, IMO, be a rather painful way to cheat. It's doable, but not fun. I've used a similar program, VNC (free prog developed by AT&T labs), that I used to do work on my computer at home when I was at school. You can turn down image quality sufficiently that it would theoretically run ok, but if you get any kind of hiccup in your connection, you could fold Aces on 4 tables.

On the computer you want to connect to, you need to enable it first. It's disabled by default.

To enable:

Right-click My Computer, and select Properties, and go to the Remote tab, then click the "Allow users to connect remotely" checkbox. Click OK.

To connect to another computer using Remote Desktop:

Go to Start->All Programs->Accessories->Communications->Remote Desktop Connection
Then just enter the full name to the computer, or its IP address. That should do it.

If the computer to which you're trying to connect is behind a router or some other firewall, then extra steps needs to be taken to allow the connection through. The exact steps depend on the hardware in place.

Hope this helps!
