Greetings all,
I am a first-time poster on this site looking for advice on a NLH hand, though I've been perusng threads for some time now. Anyway, the game is NLH (CA B&M casino and you can buy-in for whatever you want, thank god ), $2/$3 blinds and we're 4-handed. The two players in question in this hand and I have just moved froma 12/24 limit game, so even though this is the first time I've played with them before, I am cnfident that they are unimaginative, straight-forward, tight players and they view me as aggressive (and a bit reckless?) The players in question have the following stakes in front of them: Me: $500 GUY: $166 GAL: ~$750 UTG: $100 Anyway, I am holding the KQ of spades in the BB. The UTG folods, GUY comes in for a raise of $10 on the button. GAL in SB gives a huff and makes it $25 to go. At this point, I am not prepared to fold, as I have position over gal and as I stated previously, both players are unimaginative and I believe I have good control over them. Furthermore, if I flop a huge hand and they have a piece, I expect to win an abnormally large pot due to my image and post-flop skills. The only problem is that GUY is the short-stack and I would rather play heads up with GAL and position. So I make it $60 to go. GUY calls while making big "bully" motions towards his chips, so I am fairly confident he has a pocket pair btwn 77 and JJ. The GAL calls with another huff, so I still feel she is playing a big ace, AK or AQ an perhaps AJs. At this point there is $129 in the pot (I left out the blind money when reporting PF raises before). The flop is: 10h 5s 2d GAL checks and I make it $100 to go. I do this for two reasons: 1) It is about what I think GUY has in front of him (actually he turns out to have only $93 which may make an even stronger case for my play). 2) I clearly don't have the best hand (and I need the pot to be heads up since the flop provided little help) and am 99% sure GAL will fold if GUY calls. 3) If GUY folds (and how could he if has a pair!), it will put pressure on GAL if all she has is AK and put me in good position for an all-in move on the turn (remember, she is quite tight and unimaginative). Anyway, the end result was that GUY calls with 99 and GAL folds However, two blanks fell on the river and I lost the pot. Everbody at the table thought I was crazy and must not care about money after that (which I don't mind since they often will pay me off dearly for giving me that image). I really didn't care though, because I felt like I had made a reasonable gamble here. As I figured it at the time, the pot was offering me nearly 2.5:1 and (since I was almost positive nobody had AA, KK, and 90% sure nobody had QQ), I had two overcards and multiple backdoor possibilities. I put myself at approximately %30 if called by GUY which is 2.3:1 (actually, according to software analysis done this morning, it was really 30.5%, so my math skills, which have always been my biggest asset, were right on last night). If GAL called, I was 70-90% sure she would lay down if the turn brought no help and I pushed all-in (and by then, given the pot size of $339 and my remaining chips after the PF and F acton of ~$275, this was worth the shot). So I leave this one to you guys. Should I have folded PF? Just called? Then what would I do on the flop? Perhaps I could have represented a 10 better that way? Thanks for your time and sorry about the lack of icons and stuff...I'll have to learn how to make more animated posts next time. Excited first-time poster, Victor P.S. The first poll applies to PF and the second to F. vmacosta@berkeley.edu |
