Default Average $/hr

I have been keeping a pretty accurate log of my poker playing for the past year or so. I want to know what is the correct/better way to figure average $/hr won ( and/or BB/hr)

I have 2 ways to do this in Excel (the log I use), 1) each session has a $/hr won entry (it figures it out for me), Do I average these figures out, or do I 2)take the total profit over total hours?

On some of my logs that I don't have many entries for (like Limit 7 stud) Method 1 gives me a Negative number while method 2 gives a positive one.

Which is most accurate?

take the total profit over total hours. After you waste your time doing that go buy Poker Tracker.

Method 2 is not only more accurate, it is actually correct.

There is no "most" accurate. It's accurate or it's not. Method two is accurate. Method one is not.

I will stand by my claim that $/HOUR win rates are flawed. There is no measure as to how many hands have taken place over that hour. I believe $/100 HANDS to be a far more accurate win rate..

Method 2 is more correct. However, you need to allow for the number of hands played. Sometimes you play more, and sometimes less. Perhaps your win rate is higher with more/less games played. You need to consider this in evaluating your play.

I'm looking for strictly y per x theory here, not what exaclty I need to be measuring. I already do $/hr, $/100 hands, bb/hr, bb/100, $/session, etc....

SO what does the average of each session $/hr give us? A measure of variance?

Maybe I should have psoted this in another forum to get the answer I'm really looking for.

It gives you an incorrect $/hr since you don't take the length of the sessions into account. If all sessions had the same length, this method would also give you the correct answer.

Depends on what you're gonna use the number for. If you want it for evaluating your play then BB/100 is better. But if you want it for determining how much money you will make playing poker then BB/hr is better.
