Default raising for value??

Party Poker 0.5/1 Hold'em (7 handed)

Preflop: Hero is Button with 6[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 4[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img].
UTG calls, MP1 folds, MP2 folds, CO folds, Hero calls, SB completes, BB folds.

Flop: (4 SB) 5[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 7[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] <font color="blue">(3 players)</font>
SB checks, <font color="CC3333">UTG bets</font>, <font color="CC3333">Hero raises</font>, SB folds, UTG calls.

Turn: (4 BB) 2[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] <font color="blue">(2 players)</font>
<font color="CC3333">UTG bets</font>, <font color="CC3333">Hero raises</font>, UTG calls.

why call the turn? i have 6 outs for the straight (not counting spades) and 9 spade outs. 2.1:1 odds, why shouldn't i raise??

precisely because you don't have odds to pump the pot. you are not the favorite to win this hand. you have plenty of pot odds to call though.

when deciding to pump the pot, you must have favorable odds for the bets going in on that street. the size of the pot is irrelevant.

so if there were two more people there and i knew they would call, i should pump it because i'm getting 3:1 on my bets??

more or less. if there were enough sticking around, you have to discount your non-nut flush draw and you may find you don't have the odds to pump it. each situation is a little different.

With these odds to win against a single opponent, how many big bets do you expect to win for every big bet you put into the pot?

When you're raising a draw for value you have to make sure to take into consideration the differences between play on the flop as opposed to the turn. Often times you can go berzerko on the flop, but must simmer down on the turn.

Oh yeah, raising the turn is not for value.
