I suppose you could check-raise the turn instead of three-betting the flop but that clearly was not necessary in this case. If he has an eight, you have no wins, several splits and a lot of losses. I'm not laying this down without a read on my opponent but I don't like it enough to keep raising so I think you played it fine.
