Default On button, blind \"steal\" with weak A, hit my A on flop, BUT...

Location: Empire Poker
Stakes: $25+$2 NL Tournament ($5000 Guaranteed)
Players: 161 (so there is some nice overlay)

It's the later stages of the tournament, and I am among the final 20 or so, so I'm in the money. My goal, as always, is to reach a point where the money jumps signifcantly from place to place (top 10). I'm not risk adverse or care about busting out between now and 10th.

I attempted to "steal" the blinds from the button with a weak offsuit A. I was called by BB, but when the flop came with my A, and my opponent went all-in, I wasn't exactly sure what the right course of action should be. Maybe you do?

All comments appreciated.

This is extremely player dependant.

in my opinion, the cards don't really matter that much here...

what matters is your read on the player and your experience with him at the table...

Can't really help ya then buddy... I suppose if I had to answer I would call, but it's really really player dependant.

Of course the cards matter. He has top pair, against a likely stop and go. His kicker can beat some kickers. It is likely the BB is on a flush draw, otherwise, it would be smarter to check and call a bet from the PFR with a monster. If you are folding for a potsized all in, when you have top pair heads up, then I think that is weak. The last thing to consider is that you won't be knocked out if you call and lose. This is a great chance to increase your chips.

i didn't say to fold, so don't misinterpret what i said...

i didn't give any advice other than having a read on him and his style would significantly help here...

personally i would probably also call... all i was saying is that this isn't plain and simple clear cut always play the same... it's situational...

back the f*ck off...

I would push or muck preflop. This kind of hand is difficult to play a flop with. You have less than 10xBB, so should consider pushing if you are going to raise anyway.
