Default Four on the board

Just saw a first...3 Kings on the flop and one on the turn. The river was a 4. Two players left in...is this an instant split pot or is this determined by kicker?

The winning hand is the best '5 card hand' The 4 kings make up 4 of the 5 cards. unless everyone has a 4 or less, the pot goes to the highest kicker.

As Hybrid pointed out, the only way the pot will be split is if both players happen to be holding one of 23, 24, 34, 22, 33 or 44 in the hole.

Default Automatic Split Boards: (not this one)

There are only a couple situations where there is an automatic split pot:

Board is a royal flush. (ex: T[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] K[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img])
Board is quads with an ace kicker, or king kicker if the quads is aces. (ex: 6 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 6 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 6 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 6 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] A [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img])

There will also be an automatic split if the board has an ace high straight, and no more than two of any suit.

Not really true. If their highest cards are the same they will split the pot.

But you should *always* bet or raise on the end in automatic split pot situations. You'd be surprised how often somebody will fold.

do you still do this even if the max rake has not been taken out? or is the possiblity of getting someone to fold worth more than the increase in rake?
