Default B&M $20 rebuy...why you should never quit, and deal critique (long)

Hello All,

Was in Regina, Saskatchewan on the weekend to visit my fiance's sister's family.

My girl wanted to go shopping all day Saturday with her sitster, so she asked me if I could keep myself occupied at the poker room at Casino Regina all day. Ummmm....O.K.

One of the many reasons I asked this beautifull woman to marry me.

I got into a $20 rebuy with 57 players. Rebought right away for another 800 chips, rebought in level 3 with 2300 (rebuy was allowed under 2400) and added on for an investment of $80.

27 players left, blinds at 400/800 I have 1250 and I am about to be dealt UTG (dumb play and bad luck had left me short and I was already counting my roll for the cash game)

Get dealt 99 and push, called by BB big stack with K8o and my 9's hold up.

2 hands later in the SB I get ATs. CO big stack raises 3BB(same buy in BB previous hand), I push.
He shows KJo. I hit my A and make a flush
Now up to 5000.

3 hand later get AA and push. Called in 2 spots by slightly smaller stacks. Get shown 55 and QQ, the A's hold up and I start to relax a little.

Down to 3 players. I have 22,000, other 2 stacks have about 50,000 each.

Prizes are $1500, $1100, $700. One of the big stacks offers me $800 and a split on the balance with the other big stack. I say no.

30 minutes later and the stacks are about the same (very tight, but aggressive as we are all stealing, but no 2 people catching hands at the same time), and I have to go to get to dinner on time.
I offer the two big stacks to give me $900 and they can split the rest. They say o.k.

Did I do o.k. in the deal?

Also,

I have to thank the quality posters in this forum (and the SnG forum). Sossman, Tosh, Jason Strasser, MLG, cferejohn, duron, fnordtoo, fnurt, Che, EmarkM, La Brujita, Eastbay, Lori, Toro, davidross, Nottom, Kurn, El Diablo.....I sure I'm forgetting some..

In my last 3 $30 MTT's on Party I have placed 1st,4th and 5th. for a cool $6000US.

I have also made $2500US in the last month playing Super Monday and Tuesday. (multiply by 1.35 to get Canadian dollars!)

I had been a decent player before joining the forum, but now my game is at a new level and my fiance and my bank account thank you all.

I have a deal with my fiance that I play only Mon and Tues nights (with occasional weekend tourney like the PPMillion thrown in) as we don't get alot of "alone" time during the week with our numerous familly commitments and jobs. This arragement kept our weekends free.

Well a week ago she got in a car accident (not her fault) and her car was written off. She was really depressed about losing her car, and wasn't thrilled with having to finance another one, so I cashed a big chunk of roll and I'm buyiing her $10,000 car. The roll was there and available due to learning sound strategy here in the forum.

Now that she is seeing some real world results (and not just bankroll growth) from my playing she WANTS me to play at least 2 Sunday's a month to get into the 1/4 Mill MTT's on Stars and Party. (she also wants me to play for more "trips" as she had a blast in Vegas in May when I won a set to WSOP)

It's not just that I buying her a car (I make a good living and would have bought her one anyhow), but the fact that my poker playing kept us from dipping into our savings to get a car. I've kind of made her sound like a $$$ hound but she really isn't, she's quite blown away by my offer to buy her a car, and we were together when my business was new and struggling and I wasn't making much $$$.

So, the moral of the story is, playing good poker can lead to playing more poker, and for that, I thank this forum.

I look forward to seeing all the 2+2ers in the Sunday tourneys (unless you are at my table )

Thanks again, and did you like the deal in the B&M?

regards,
woodguy

With even stacks and $3300 to chop, I wouldn't have taken less than $1000, but if you're the only one feeling any time pressures to end the tourney, $100 may be less important than keeping the future wife happy.

Good point.

With both big stacks having me outstacked 2-1, I doubt they would have given me a straight up split, but I could have held out for more.

You are also right in that I must keep my future wife happy

Neither your fiance, nor the at fault driver had car insurance? Insurance may be -EV in the long run, but I, and most others, think the decrease in variance is well worth it.

Oh crap, when you said "the stacks are about the same" I thought you meant they were the same as each other, not the same as your previous statement. Duh.

In that case, $900 seems reasonable, especially given the negative marital EV you were accumulating. hehe

She was driving a 15 year old car that only had 50,000 kms and was in mint condition (was her grandma's car). Given the age of the car the insurance company is giving her a whopping $1100 for it which won't buy much.

Is it wrong that I get amused by the real life application of 2+2 poker terms? I laughed pretty hard at "negative marital EV" and variance for car insurance. Of course I guess these terms really are real world terms, but still funny...

Good job.

Your opponents got a good deal, but I think you know that.

You should have gotten closer to $1050 by my calculations, depending on the opponents tightness, and the blind levels.

Do you mind if I ask how you calculated it? I came up with $874 using the formula from TPFAP, but Sklansky admits there's no perfect way to work it out with more than two players. Or maybe my arithmetic is off.

Is there a specific way you adjust the figure based on blinds and opponent tightness or do you just bump it up a little based on feel?
