Well, the first step is to find people to play against. Then you do whatever you can to take their money. I'll let others elaborate.

Ado - Poker is a relatively simple money game that uses cards.

(Similarly craps is a simple money game that uses dice).

Poker is such a simple game that there are lots of variations.

Basically you are dealt some cards, as are your opponents. Then you bet if you think you can beat your opponents. If your opponents bet first, you can fold, call or raise, depending on the effect you think your action will have on your opponents and your bankroll.

Most forms of poker use five cards to make a hand. Different groupings of cards have different relative values. For example,
9[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 7[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 6[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 5[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (a straight flush) outranks
K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], T[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 4[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (a flush). You have to learn what these relative rankings are.

Most people learn to play poker by watching family members or friends play.

My understanding is there are various on-line sites where you can learn to play for free. I don't know exactly where they are. You can also purchase a book about how to play poker or go to the public library and ask the librarian to find you a book about how to play poker.

Although poker is a game of money played with cards, I'd advise you not to actually play for real money until you learn the game.
