Default Hands played to a raise?

i've had this debate with friends before about what hands should be played to a raise when you've just sat down at a table and haven't observed other players' playing styles yet. one says "top four" referring to AA KK QQ AK. others say AQs is their cutoff. what do you guys think about hands such as AJs, AJ, KQs, KQ, JJ, TT played to an unknown raiser in early position? should hands below AQs automatically be mucked? should AQs even be mucked?

This question is far too vague. What's your position, what's the position of the raiser, what's the texture of the game, etc.?
