Default Foxwoods 20-40 -- Psychotic Pocket 2\'s?

There was too long of a wait on my traditional 5-10 or 10-20 at Foxwoods, so with a great month of poker behind me, I thought I'd sit 20-40 as a number of the good players that will often sit at that game weren't there.

Nothing much happens for a half hour and my name is coming up next and I'm wondering if I should stay here, seeing as how we're getting 6 or 7 to every flop.

Five callers ahead of me and I'm one off the button and see a couple of black 2's. I throw in my $20. The button, who played even fewer pots than me, threw in his $20 as well.

Flop comes

4-4-4

Big Blind fires out $20 -- he tries to pick up a lot of pots but knows when to lay a hand down; he's played with me before and knows how I normally play fairly straightforwardly.

Everyone folds around to me and it seems like the button is thinking about calling.

I try something: I raise it to $40.

Button folds.

Big Blind calls.

Turn is a 5:

He checks -- I bet -- He folds.

Thoughts?

Seems standard to me. The raise on the flop is a must. The button might have been moved off a number of pocket pairs higher than your's.

"I try something: I raise it to $40."

What other choice did you have?

Seriously, though, well-played. with the flop bettor you described, surprising that all pre-flop limpers would fold to you, and that no one would try to isolate him.

BTW, if button mucked and he called your flop raise, i'd bet the turn again no matter what hit. This is the spot I'd expect him to muck. I'd even call a turn check-raise.

Check the river if checked to you, if you dont improve (you really couldn't improve, with that flop).

Sounds pretty standard. The bettor might have an A, but realizes he's up against a pocket pair.

Playing this hand any other way is simply incorrect.

You pretty much have to take your shot right there.

Barron's flop raise is a must but there is no way that it gets the button or anyone to fold a pocket pair.
