Default Does anyone watch the Series with people who cant play?

I watch with my mom and dad, and my dad just doesnt understand the game.

its so annoying when my dad says something like, "thats just a terrible terrible play"(after Vogl's all in call with KJ after Chiu hit and Ace on the turn with AT) or "Jake wouldnt call there"

Whenever he says something like this, i usually say, "ya know, they cant see the percentage next to their names!"

Anyone else have similar experiences?

Yes.

I'm sure I recall a thread about a common experience in all of our living rooms at one point or another.

It involved the phenomenon of sitting there with your no-poker-understanding girlfriend/wife, and she doesn't say a word because you know she doesn't know if the big blind just kicked a field goal or won the third set tiebreaker.

But they always say the same thing when the camera finds Hellmuth:

"I cannot STAND that guy!"

So, yes. I DO watch poker with a non-player, and it seems her instincts are pretty good.

Yes, I'll be watching someone make a ridiculous all in call based on a super read, and I say, "I can't believe he called so fast!" The rest of the room looks at me thinking, "Of course he called, he had the best hand." Anyways, it's also a little awkward when I get excited over an all in semibluff raise.

this has actually made me alot of money at the firehouse when guys see how "easy it is" to play. All of a sudden a poker game will break out (after I get my travel case of chips), and the debate of whether its luck or skill will ensue as I drag some big pots. lol

My 73 year old mother-in-law recently moved in with us and I was really surprised when it caught her interest. I even caught her watching a Tivoed WPT show when I wasn't even in the room. I know she has absolutely no clue how the game is played and what hand beats what, but as a Wheel of Forture/Jeopardy addict she's obviously caught up in the game show aspects and the incredible amounts of money these guys win.

After all, it has taken that Mormon trivia freak 25 days to win $700k on Jeopardy and these guys are betting literally millions on the turn of a card!!

even though I have explained it to her 15 times, my mom always thinks they are playing with cash "oh that poor daniel just lost lost $200,000 to that mean cowboy."

She always seems to miss the part where they then say that daniel just won $168,000 or whatever for coming in third.

I mostly watch with my wife and gf, and they know how to play, but don't really understand the subtleties. And until recently just didn't get the blind structure.

So rather than complete ignorance, I end up fielding a lot of questions like, "Why did he say Daniel should lay down that hand?" or "Why would he bet there?"

And yes, they both had Phil Laak and Phil Helmuth
