Why aren't you supposed to go into a hot tub drunk? What is the specific health concern, assuming there is one other than the fear of drowning?

The building i currently live in used to have a hot tub in the gym that was unsupervised. A few years before i moved in some chick got into it while drunk, passed out and drowned. I guess the heat of the water amd the amount of booze she drank did not go well together. Needless to say, there is no more hot tub in our building.

Your blood is already thinned, and you are experiencing vasodilation far in excess of normal. So you end up super-heating your blood, very quickly, and greatly increasing your chance of stroke or heart disturbances.

Yeah, its pretty sweet when all the steam is coming off the hot tub because its so [censored] cold outside. The super-heated pools in Reno/Tahoe are nice in the winter time too.
