Default Did I get screwed? Question about money on table

I was playing at Greektown in Detroit last week. No Limit holdem, $100 min buy in with 2/5 blinds. Had been playing for about 6 hours and was talking to a guy next to me that I have seen around a few times. A seat opens up and as the new player is walking towards the table the guy next to me says this new player is know as a "kamikaze" type player. Loves to put all his chips in pre or post flop. As he reaches the table the dealer is getting ready to deal and asks him if he wants to post. He is UTG and says yes. Pulls out eight $1000 chips, sets them on the table and says he needs change. Slides three of them over to a guy across the table and gets six purple back. As this is happening the waitress show up with my bottle of water. I dont have any smaller chips to tip her so I have to reach into my pocket for a dollar. As I am doing this my eyes are off the new player but I here him say make it $25. Three players call and I look down to see two beautiful aces. Now I look over at the new player and instead of $8000 in front of him all I see is five purple chips. Do I say something or did he have the right to put chips back into his pocket since he just sat down and asked for change, even know he placed all eight $1000 chips on the table before the cards were delt. I dont know if he looked at his cards before or after he put the chips back in his pocket since I was digging for a single to give the waitress. I put in a mini raise up to $50, he called and so did the other three players. Flop comes A Jh 5h. He bets out $500, the other three fold and I put him all in. He calls and flips up pocket fives. No help for him on the turn or river and I rake in a nice pot. At the time I didnt want to say anything because I had Aces and didnt want to make him think I had a big hand. Thinking back on it I probably should of spoke up and acted like a prick about it which might of made him more eager to try and bust me. Did this guy have the right to do this or am I just being gready because I know I could of taken $8000 instead of $2500?

I don't think so. If he took his chips off the table before he was dealt cards then there wasn't a problem. It was a $100 min. buy-in and he gave the dealer more than that in chips when he sat down. If I walked up to the table with a huge roll of money, peeled off a few hundred, and stuck the rest in my pocket, you wouldn't think I have to play the money in my pocket, would you?

He was asked if he wanted to post. He said yes and set the stack of chips on the table. The cards were then delt. It was another player that changed the $1000 chips to purples so his money was on the table before the cards were delt. Once he got the purples from the other player he put one of them and the rest of the $1000 chips back in his pocket.

Yuu're being a whiny nit. This was the guy's first hand at the table. It should be plainly obvious he wanted to buy in for the $2,500 amount.

Sounds like in the process of buying in, he ended up with the amount he wanted to play with on the table when it came time to bet.

What do you want the casino to do? Enforce some kind of ten foot rule? Don't approach a table within 10 feet without having the exact amount of money you wish to play with in your hand.

The guy was trying to post, get some cards, make sure another player or the dealer was giving him proper change for his chips, and maybe even thinking about getting comfortable in his chair. Meanwhile, a nit was worried that, at some point in this process, some chips actually touched the surface of the table.

I would say more than likely it's a legit deal. BUT like you said you weren't looking....If he looked at his cards and THEN put 5500 back in his pocket it was total BS. The problem is your bottle of water cost ya. You weren't looking so forget about it brutha.

This is one of the most annoying posts I've read in a long time. Dynasty and cardcounter are of course correct.

As for you, that $50 min-raise preflop is horrible.

I understand where you are coming from with that response but I am just asking a question. It wasnt plainly obvious he wanted to buy in for $2500. When asked to post he slammed those chips down and let the stack spread out so everyone at the table could see that he had a big enough bankroll to cover just about everyone. If he wanted to only buy in for $2500 then his splashing eight grand out in front of him in a cocky manner was a little unnesessary. (as were his way too big for his head oakley sunglasses and ace of spade pinky ring) Lets say someone acted out of turn that had more money than him and went all in. (seen it happen more that a dozen times in this game) Would it then be alright for him to pick how much money he wanted to put back in his pocket before he looks at his cards? I just always thought that if a guy asks to be dealt in, places a pile of money on the table but doesnt say how much he is buyin in for and now has cards in front of him that he had to keep them on the table or not play the hand.
