Default HU play (long)

so, I have been finishing regularly itm, but usually 2nd or, more often, 3rd. Tonight, I feel I played some of my best heads up ever. I finished 2nd (in my first sng) but still feel I made the right choices. I finished 1st in my other sng and again feel I made good choices. However, this is just my feeling and what do I know. Thus, I am looking for feedback from any and all who care to look at these two HU hand histories.

Both games are Party Poker 10+1 sng played earlier this evening.

Game 1 rybones takes 2nd place:

if I hadn't put "long" in the original title, would someone have read this? There are so many good posters and thinkers here, I would really love some feedback from anyone? alas, I guess it's no biggie.

I'll give you some feedback on some:

obDisclaimer--I'm a 10+1 player weaker at headsup but have gotten stronger etc.

903939475--I'd probably fold here, though the call is not horrible
904264244-I'd push all-in.
904268242-I probably just fold here. No reason to do battle with the big stack. I definitely fold to the raise.
904173531-I don't defend my blind here, but I'm not real strong on my opinion.
904280457--Perhaps you had a read on your opponent. Otherwise, it just looks like bleeding chips. I'd fold preflop.

Default Re: HU play (long)

A quick scan through.

The problem with looking through HU play is that as long as you are generally aggressive, each individual hand can be played a number of ways, but anyway, I digress.

AJ seems fine, pot is big enough to merit trying for your outs.

J2 seems fine, I might check-raise it.

56o, I don't like just calling, but if the opponent is passive it's fine.

J7 is a check-call for me.
He's the preflop raiser, so if you check to him he's probably going to bet anyway. On the occasions when he's bluffing you'll catch him for his stack.
By betting here, you're only going to get him to put his stack in if he wants to.

A9 seems fine.

Game 1 seemed aggressive enough to me, I didn't look at any results for any hands, which is a flaw in the analysis, as what has happened on previous hands makes a difference.

Q9.
I'm not keen on following through calling this once the nightmare Queen falls.
I'm aware that cashcowmoo has been playing attacking poker, but feel that even a nutter has the Ace quite often.

The A5 hand is one where I might be tempted to mini-raise.
The guy on the BB is pretty much unlikely to call even 300 here unless he's going to play and you avoid having to take on cashcowmoo if he wants to stick the lot in.
It's only a quick scan, and your play seems fine, but it might be worth understanding the concept in case it comes up in a slightly more useful scenario (SB bigger stack, BB smaller stack)

34.
If you called with this hand to mainly slow down your opponent, then this is fine.
If you called with it because you felt you were getting appropriate odds to play the hand, then it's not fine.

I like the final hand, he's already bluffed once with garbage, so I think you were right to call.

Lori

LOOKS FINE; I THINK I SLIGHTLY PREFER PUSHING, ESP. IF SB IS CAPABLE OF RESTEALING

EDIT. Lori argues that a minraise is preferable, but I disagree. If the BB decides to push, you're committed even with a minraise. However, a 3xbb raise might keep the SB from calling with a hand like A8. Another problem is that if the SB calls with something like that A8, the BB now has great odds, and you could easily find yourself playing a 3-way pot with A5o.
Also, a minraise gives the SB implied odds to call you with a small pair hoping to spike a set. Not something you want since you're behind a small pair to begin with.

Default Re: HU play (long)

My HU game could use some work as well I think, but Ill give it a shot.

AJo I probably push with this preflop, but normaly the blinds are higher when I make HU. I think a little more then a min raise would be better though

65o
I dont normaly like to complete here. Its a weak hand HU. Betting that flush board is dangerous, because you have absolutly nothing. A dangerous oponent might checkraise you all in here. I could be wrong.

J7o
I like the calling of the min raise, but I dont like this flop. I wouldnt bet here. You actualy had the best hand, but I wouldnt count on this every time. Again I could be wrong.

A9o I push here no question. The blinds are high enough, and he might not have played his crap that beat you.

Next game

A2o
I hate the min raise here. A2o is not a very strong hand, but its strong enough to steal with your stack size. By min raising you only ask to get beat.

Q9o
This one is a toughy. With the other guy getting short stacked I am not sure how I play Q9o here. the complete is good I think, and calling the min raise is fine too. The flop is awesome. It looks like you are going for a checkraise, I would do the same. The turn is terrible terrible. Could he have the ace? His min raise preflop says yes, but his check in position on the flop says no. Calling this down is still dangerous. I would prefer bet the turn then call it.

A5o
I like the preflop raise. Basically enough to commit BB but not enough to get you in trouble if SB wants to play.

43o
I dont call this min raise. You may have the odds in a way, but you need to hit awful big on the flop to play this hand If you hit big then chances are he whiffs big, so you hardly gain anything.

AJo
Once again I like your preflop raise.

82o
This hand has me worried. I dont like the min raise, but it does set you up to take the pot down on the flop when he checks.... but he called. then he bets on the turn when you pick up the 8. I would have probably layed this down on the turn.

Hope my advice wasnt terrible. I honestly need to refine my own HU play. I win more 1sts then 2nds but I am chip leader going into HU more often then not.

Default Re: HU play (long)

Ok, I keep it simple HU.

BB is 400, 8k in play, thats push fold for me.

AJo push
J2o good
65 fold preflop
J7 fold preflop, possibly push
A9o push

game2
A2 hand push preflop, u have less than 10xBB
K7s, fold is OK, I think pushing is OK too, KTs I push for sure.
Q9 fold preflop. Maybe raise, calling is the worst.
A5 all in PF, your opponents all have less than 10xbb
43 fold preflop, its also not a bad spot for a push, especially if he does this crap (min raising) a lot.

Ok... Basically you violate the 10xBB rule. I'd try to call and limp a lot less, and raise more chips when you decide to raise. Your hand selection seems pretty good. Just dont be afraid to push your stack around.

Default thanks to all!!!

your comments are really great! some of the hands I played esp the 4,3o do look week in the calling, but I guess I just felt I could outplay after the flop.

Anyway, I loved reading all your comments. thanks a ton!!!
