Default quick PF question - settle a bet

simple question to settle a bet with a friend.

first hand of the table. you post your BB.

UTG raises. UTG+1 calls. all fold to you in the BB with AJo.

I think it's easier to fold AJo to a typical UTG raise. One could make a case for calling but maybe that's because I've been playing too much six max lately.

Raising is retarded.

This seems like a very easy fold. I'm surprised at the poll results. I'd rather have 87 here than AJ. The one cold-call changes nothing. I'm just as likely to be dominated.

I call because:

-Both opponents are unknowns, and I therefore can't rule out the possibility that I have the best hand.
-I'm getting just over 5:1 on my call.
-If I should flop two pair or better, I'm extremely likely to be paid off nicely postflop.
-Even with typical players at UTG & UTG+1, it's very possible that I have 6 good outs vs. two underpairs.
-I'm confident in my ability to play this hand postflop vs. an EP raiser & coldcaller.

If this is how most people play, than it's true that I am tighter than a virgin's pussy preflop.

I doubt it's how most people play. I'm just looser than Courtney Love's.

I'm with Harv, almost exactly my reasoning. 5:1 is alot with AJ, the only hand that has you really bad is AA, everyone else you've got outs against. If the A flops your reverse implied odds might not be great, but I think this is an easy easy call.

I voted call for similar reasons, although I put not too much stock in reason 1 (having the best hand). However, I think it is pretty close and I could probably be convinced otherwise.

Since I assume (until proven otherwise) that an EP cold caller is a total donk (and not someone holding say a medium pocket pair) I think the potential reverse implied odds here are not so bad because Mr. Presumed-to-be-a-donk will hopefully pay off when you hit the flop and your hand is good.
