Move up limits?

I feel a little confused about what I should do.

I've played about 19k hands since I started playing poker at the start of the year. I knew nothing about poker before that. I started at .01/.02 and have moved up to .50/1.00 where I am currently. I have read WLLH, ITH, GSIH and am half way through SSH. I read the forums every day. I only play 2 tables at a time. I have turned my inital $50 deposit into about $1200.

I would say my bankroll is sufficient to move to the next level but I have only played 5k hands at .50/1. (My bb/100 is about 3 or 4 at this level currently..small sample size...)


Should I stick at .50/1.00 until I have more experience and have completed reading SSH once or twice(maybe work on playing more tables) or just take the plunge and keep moving up?

I'd say move up, the limit isn't going to play much different.

You have enough BR to move up to 1/2. I have a smaller BR and 4 table 1/2. My only advice is that in my experience 1/2 is alot looser during the afternoon (Party). Also when I moved up I got crushed and couldn't understand why. Ends up I just hit a swing about the time I moved up. If you aren't comfortable with the bigger pots sizes you might want to just hang out in .5/1 a while longer, if not have at it!!!1

I would, and did, move up. You are either a good player and that is where your success is coming from or lucky. I've actually found 1/2 easier to "beat" than 0.50/1.00. I don't even think that I put in 5K hands at 0.50/1.00, so small sample size, but I was over 10BB/100. I also only 2-table and am now playing 1 table of 2/4 and 1 table of 1/2 getting used to 2/4 before moving up for good. Also, all of my playing is split pretty even between Stars and Empire. I found that the tag style I play wins more at Stars.

you've got more than enough bankroll for 1/2; it can sustain 2/4.

I move up when I feel comfortable doing so, not based on how many hands I've played at a certain level. For me, I moved quickly (in terms of number of hands) from $1/2 (where I started) to $2/4 and quickly again to $3/6. It took me a lot longer to feel comfortable there before moving to $5/10. I anticipate it will take even more time for me to move from $5/10.

In summary, move when you feel you are ready. (EDIT as long as your bankroll permits!)

Personally I would finish reading SSHE first. The aggressive play outlined in this book is often misused at first so it might be best to adjust to the new concepts at a lower limit.

Don't say .50/1 and 1/2 are the same, because they're worlds apart.

1/2 is sooooo much tighter.

My suggestion is to NOT move up. I would go until 10k hands, make a stats post in the Microlimit forums, and evaluate your game before taking a risk at a higher level.

Yes, you are over bankrolled for 1/2, but I don't think the experience is there.
