Default PS $160 WPT Double Shootout - 3 handed A9

I'm the big stack with about 4600, 2nd in chips has about 4000, and short stack has about 2000. We've all done our fair share of bullying, but short stack is the only one who's shown down some mediocre hands.

Blinds 100/200

I have A9o in the SB. Button folds, I raise to 600. BB calls.

Flop 459, two diamonds. Pot is 1200, I bet 800. BB thinks for a minute and raises all in. I have him covered by 600. I call. Comments?

Note: This is only the first table.

sounds good to me. it would be a much tougher decision if there was a difference between 2nd and 3rd.

It looks like the raise is 2600 more, correct? Surely it's correct to call here even in a standard SNG with a 50/30/20 payout schedule. There's a very good chance A9 is ahead, and if not it's likely only a small underdog to something like J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]T[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img].

Shows you why I am no good at this. When the folks I play with (animal-like sub-humans in the poker hierarchy) call a big PF raise and then Push-in after you lead at a nine-high Flop, I may not know what they have, but they sure can beat a pair of nines. Stupid me just doesn't see any point to chasing after lost chips with an inferior hand. So I would fold without any particular qualm and go on to the next hand.

Someday I hope I can learn how to play this game.

i think there are many hands he can play this same way that you beat. he may put you on an obligatory bet withsomething like AJ and figures a reraise will get you to throw away your hand. why wouldnt he play a hand like 88 or 77 this way or even AK? you have about 3000 left and he is betting 2400 into you so you have good odds since there is about 2000 in the pot. seems to me you have to call here.

You realize this was three-handed, right? If so, you are folding way too much in short-handed play.

Well it turns out he had 7 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]8 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] and rivered his flush. Knowing that he was on a draw, would you still call here? I think I would; you need all the chips to win, and against tough opponents I'll take any edge I can get. Comments?

Yes. If you knew your opponent had 8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] so that you were a slim favourite (http://twodimes.net/h/?z=669729), why would you even consider folding with 5400 already in the pot?
