Default Play little pairs in limit?

Is it worthwhile to call the bring in with small hidden pairs like 55J or 889 in the hope of making trips on fourth street or 5th street?

It depends!!

Those calls wouldn't be the loosest calls ever made in a 7 stud game. Its best to be able to get in cheap and obviously your cards need to be live.

as beer money said, it totally depends. a few things that increase the value of hidden pairs:
1.) an overcard kicker to the highest door card
2.) a straight or flush (or preferably straight flush kicker)
i.e. 8d8h9h is much better than 4c4h9d
3.) how live the cards are, (especially your cards to make trips, and to a lesser degree your kicker).
4.) pot odds (ante, number of callers in the pot)
5.) implied odds (how much you figure to make if you hit your monster hand).
in factoring implied odds, certain opponents make for better competition. you would prefer opponents that won't be too aggressive (so you can hopefully catch your trips) as well as opponents that will call bets if you do hit it. in other words, you would prefer loose passive opponents.
6.) if it's a shorthanded game, smaller pairs go up in value.
I'm sure there are a lot of other factors, but those were the ones at the top of my head.
